Ten Bathroom Trends You Need to Know About

If you’re looking to redesign your bathroom this year, it’s important to make sure that your remodel reflects the current trends. Otherwise, you risk sinking a lot of money into a room that will add nothing to the value of your home. These ten trends have become very popular among some of the top design experts.

  1. Natural materials. Building with unfinished wood, rocks, and other materials taken straight from nature is a trend that has some staying power. In addition to being eco-friendly, this is a great way to bring some of the outdoors into your home.
  2. Living elements. While some high-end designs are incorporating living walls that are covered in greenery, it’s possible to simply add a few planters relatively inexpensively.
  3. Copper. Copper has been increasing in popularity as a material for fixtures and other cabinet hardware. Some great designs have included copper bathtubs and wall decor.
  4. Patterned tiles. Patterned tiles and mosaic designs have been popping up everywhere in home design this year, so it just makes sense that the trend will continue to the bathroom. Look for a repeating, geometrical pattern.
  5. Custom showers. This is another trend that looks like it’s around to stay. In addition to one-of-a-kind showers being in high demand among luxury home shoppers, many re-modeling companies are reporting that these are must-have features among their clients. Consider monsoon-style water fixtures mounted to the ceiling, or frame less showers that have nothing but a few frames of glass and fixtures mounted to the wall.
  6. Curves. Bathrooms don’t have to have all straight edges. Consider incorporating a curved shower wall or tub step into your design.
  7. Marble and onyx. These two building materials were popular in kitchens for many years, so it makes sense that they’re migrating to the bathroom. Look for tiles and pieces that show many natural colors. Stay away from monochromatic dyed pieces that can make a bathroom feel dated.
  8. Bold wall statements. Some designs are using patterned tiles to created mosaics on the walls, while other designs are using custom painters to create murals. Don’t be afraid to pick art that really complements your personal style.
  9. Single colors. Designing a bathroom around a single color can make a bold statement, making it a great idea for smaller rooms and guest bathrooms.
  10. Wet rooms. These rooms are open areas of a bathroom that can double as a shower area. The trend has been around for several years, making them almost expected in higher-end bathrooms.
