When you are deciding to re-do your kitchen cabinets, there are some major considerations to think about before choosing your style. Cabinetry is one of the larger investments in a home, so it must be done right. There are some major things to consider before you choose your cabinets. Knowing what look for and what you need is the main key, but there are some other points to consider as well.

Existing Cabinets

If you hate the way they look, but your existing cabinets are in good condition, there may be parts of them that you can save, and save money in the long run. You might simply need to replace the surface and doors of the cabinets. This is less costly and is an easier way to give your kitchen a whole new look. You might even be able to replace doors with glass doors or simply remove the doors for a set of floating shelves for open style storage.

Check Your Budget

When re-doing an entire kitchen, you will need to spend money on other things in the room besides the cabinetry. It is important to add up all of your other needs in order to get an idea about what you can spend on cabinets. This will also give you an idea on what types of cabinets to shop for.

Storage

Look at the amount of storage space you have and how much you will need with your new cabinets. Consider how much you’ll need for the upper cabinets and the lower cabinets as well. Think through your needs before you pick something out.

Another choice you must make when choosing cabinets is whether you prefer inset, full overlay or partial overlay. This is simply a matter of preference, but it will change the look of your cabinetry.

Ease and Organization

There are many different “bells and whistles” that can be added to your cabinetry to make your kitchen easier to maneuver around in and can also keep it more organized. The lazy Susan, pull-out shelves, pull-out trashcans, baking sheet racks and soft closed drawers are some easy upgrades to add to your cabinetry to make it more livable.
